Container buying guide
Everything you need to know before buying – explained briefly and honestly.
1. Which size do I need?
| Type | External dimensions (L×W×H) | Usable volume | Ideal for |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10 ft | 2,99 × 2,44 × 2,59 m | ~16 m³ | Garden, club, small workshop |
| 20 ft | 6,06 × 2,44 × 2,59 m | ~33 m³ | Storage, construction site, tools – the bestseller |
| 40 ft | 12,19 × 2,44 × 2,59 m | ~67 m³ | Plenty of storage space, low cost per m² |
| 40 ft High Cube | 12,19 × 2,44 × 2,89 m | ~76 m³ | Bulky goods, extra height |
Rule of thumb: when in doubt, go for 20 ft instead of 10 – the extra cost is small, the gain in space is big.
2. New or used?
Used containers are considerably cheaper and perfectly adequate for storage. Like-new (One-Trip) containers are worth it when appearance matters or the container is in plain view.
- Cargo Worthy (CW): certified fit for transport, wind- & watertight – best value for money.
- Wind & Water Tight (WWT): tight, ready for storage use, somewhat more signs of wear.
- One-Trip / like-new: loaded only once, practically new, fresh paintwork.
3. Placement & ground
The ground should be level and load-bearing – compacted gravel or concrete slabs under the four corner points are usually enough. Allow for a slight slope for water run-off and drivable access for the crane truck.
4. Building permit
Rules differ by country and region. Purely temporary storage containers often only need to be notified rather than approved; residential or occupied use almost always requires a permit. Authorities regularly classify permanently placed containers as structures. Obtaining any required permit is the buyer's responsibility. When in doubt, clarify this with your municipality in advance.
5. Delivery & costs
We deliver EU-wide by crane truck, which sets the container down precisely. Calculate the delivery guide price right on every product page; we state the binding price in the quote.
